Especially Prepared and Positioned to Serve God - Exodus 1-3 and Matthew 14:1-21
Many believers do not feel worthy or capable of serving God. This is a terrible misconception. It is a lie of Satan. The truth is that God has especially prepared and positioned each of us as believers to serve a vital purpose in the Kingdom of God. One of the reasons we are not seeing more happen in our world today is that God's people are not fulfilling their special service to God. We need to learn this lesson from God's Word once and for all.
The midwives in Exodus 1 were in a position to render a valuable service to the Lord, and they did because they feared God and not Pharaoh. They were told to kill the Hebrew baby boys, but they did not do that. They knew that murder was wrong, and that God would not want them to follow Pharaoh's orders when they went against God's law. Therefore, they were used by God in a significant way. He did not bless them for lying, if it was untrue that the Hebrew ladies had their babies quickly, but He did bless them for doing His will, instead of Pharaoh's will. How many people today are not being used by God because they fear their employers or the government more than God? They are not being obedient to serve God as He has prepared them to.
Think of Moses' parents. They put their baby boy in the river, but not to drown him. God preserved his life, and his mother was able to raise him for a while with pay, before he went to Pharaoh's house. What role did his mother play in history? It must have been her who planted the passion for God's people in his heart from the start. She imparted the truth to her young son, and God used it to call him into his service later on. That could be true of so many mothers today, but are they planting a passion for the Lord in their children or not?
Moses himself is a fantastic example of the right person for the right time. A Hebrew raised in Pharaoh's house was the person prepared and positioned to do God's will. God still had to do some convincing, but Moses followed God's will, and he was used to deliver his people God's way, instead of his own way, which ended in murder. How many of us would have said yes to God, even if we had seen a burning bush and heard His voice?
In Matthew 14 we read about the death of John, the Baptist. He was a very special person for God's service. His life and preparation made him the one to stand up to Herod's sin. He was able to witness to the king before he was killed. What a legacy! God's service on earth does not always bring success and prosperity, but think of John's reward in heaven for eternity. Then, think of the 12 disciples. They were told by Jesus to feed the multitude of over 5,000 men with women and children, too. They could not conceive of such a miracle. However, Jesus would not have commanded them to do it, if they were not able. He was showing them that they would have been able, if they had relied on His power. Isn't that what He is trying to show us today? Yes, He has prepared us and positioned us to do His will, if we will just trust Him and depend on His power.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Exodus 4-6 and Matthew 14:22-36.
