November 14, 2006 - Lamentations 3-5 and Hebrews 10:19-39
We must settle it once and for all in our hearts that God is faithful. The testimony of Jeremiah in these chapters of Lamentations shows it clearly. No matter how badly we are treated as individuals, God is there for us as we continue to trust Him. His mercies are new every morning. (3:22-24) Jeremiah had endured terrible ridicule and rejection. It had made him feel physically sick. (3:4) However, God brought him through all of the pain and restored his joy, because of his steadfast hope in the Lord. Even when they put him in the terrible pit of the dungeon, God was with him, and He delivered him. (3:55-57) Are you persecuted for your faith today? Do you feel like you have you been put in that pit of miry clay? Call out to the Lord, and He will be faithful to hear you. He did it for Jeremiah, and He did it for Israel. He will do the same for you.
Hebrews 10 ends with a great admonition to be faithful based on what Christ has done for us. Since Christ died to pay for our sins and to bring us into a close relationship with God, we must be faithful to draw near to Him with boldness. We must hold fast our confession of faith in Christ. We must be faithful to move forward in unity, encouraging the other believers by assembling together for worship regularly. The writer of Hebrews was saying that because of Jesus' once for all death for our sins, there was no going back to animal sacrifices. Christ is the only way to the Father. He brings us to the Father through His blood, and we are to walk with Him each day while we gladly do His will in this world.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Ezekiel 1-2 and Hebrews 11:1-19.
