March 18, 2006 - Deuteronomy 32-34 and mark 15:26-47
Let's focus in on one verse from this passage. Look at Deuteronomy 32:47. In this verse Moses proclaims an essential truth to the people of Israel and to us. The Word of God is our life. Do you believe that truth? Do you think it was just said for Israel and not for us? Think about it for a moment. The Bible tells us that Jesus is the Word. He is the Living Word of God, and He is our life. Jesus is the Truth. The Word of God is truth. Truth is a person, Jesus, and He is revealed in the written Word. Life is a person, Jesus, and He is revealed in the written Word. Therefore, the Word was their life, then, and it is our life now. We can't see Jesus physically today, and that fact hinders some people from believing. However, we can see the written Word, and we can come to know Him by reading and believing the written Word. Therefore, there is something tangible God has given to reveal Himself to us. He gave the Law to Israel through Moses. He told them to read it and to obey it. He has given the whole Bible to us, and He tells us to read it and obey it. As we do, we come to know Him better and better. His Word is our life. That is true of Moses' song in chapter 32 and the blessings of chapter 33. They are truth and life. What God said, He will do. To go against His Word is to go against Him. It never works to ignore God's Word or to disobey God's Word. Moses found that out when he struck the rock the second time, instead of speaking to it as God told Him to do. That is why he died on Mt. Nebo. God is serious about His Word. I pray that we will take it seriously.
Mark 15 records the death of Jesus. In many ways it is the saddest part of the Bible. Our sin killed the sinless Son of God. Our sin caused Him to experience the worse grief and pain possible. He was rejected, so we could be accepted by God. What an injustice for Him, but what love for us. We should praise Jesus and thank Him every day for His perfect love and His perfect sacrifice of Himself for us. Because He is Truth, He could do no less than to pay the ultimate price for sin. That way no accusation could be brought against God for forgiving our sin. The Truth preserved the truth of God by dying in our place.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Joshua 1-3 and Mark 16.
