February 24 - Joshua 15-18
Here God begins to give detailed descriptions of the areas given to each tribe. He begins with the tribe of Judah, which is the largest tribe, and He continues until all of the tribes have received their inheritance. It is interesting that the whole process was done by lot. This means that no tribe was able to choose where they were going to live. It was assigned by casting a lot or rolling the dice, so to speak. However, this process was done to discern God's will not just to make a random selection. God directed the lot to give each tribe the area of His choice. That is what we should want all of the time. We should want to follow God's will and have His provision for us instead of insisting on having it our own way.
The tribe of Manasseh is told in chapter 17 that if they want more land, they must go into the mountains to conquer the land and clear it off. This again shows our need to trust God more and more as we follow Him farther and farther. If we want more than the basics provided by God, we must be willing to put forth more effort and more trust. God is glad for us to do that, but most people are content to stick with the basics. They even complain when some have more than they do spiritually, but they are not willing to pay the price to have it.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Joshua 19-21.
