Thirsty for God
Even as I sit here and write this to you, I am thirsty. I just finished walking my 10,000 steps this morning, but it was kind of warm. It would be so good to have a tall glass of cold water right now, but since my doctor has told me to limit my fluid intake, I can't quench my thirst that way. However, that doesn't keep me from longing for it. That is how I feel every day when I get up. I long for God. The difference is that I can drink from Him and quench my thirst.
This was the heart's desire of the psalmist, but it seems he did not know how to have his thirst for God quenched. (Psalm 42:1,2) He said that like a deer longs for the streams of water, he longed for God. He longed for the Living God. He wondered when he could go and stand before Him. I want to make sure we all know the importance of thirsting for God and knowing how to go to Him to quench that thirst.
We have a thirst for God when we come to the end of our resources, and we know that we must have God to really have the healthy spiritual life. It is when we know that only the living waters of the Lord can revive us and give us the refreshing we need to live life to the fullest. We have to wake up each morning and long for the water of the Lord, so that nothing can stop us from seeking Him in the Word and in prayer. Then, we can be strong for the day with Him.
The truth is that we can go to the Lord any time we are thirsty for Him. We may not realize that, but He is waiting on us. We need to confess any sins which the Spirit shows us so we can enter into His presence clean and pure. Then, we need to be honest with the Lord about our needs. He can see if we are really thirsty or not. However, once we are clean and our heart is set on Him, He will meet with us and meet our needs as only He can. It is so wonderful to drink deeply of the Lord and to have our thirst quenched by Him.
