The Lord Keeps Me Alive
Life is fragile. I know it doesn't seem that way all of the time, but when things go wrong with us or with those around us, we see just how fragile life is. We need the right nourishment to live and thrive. We need the oxygen for our bodies to be strong. Mentally, we need a lot of stability or things start to fall apart. There is a lot that goes into living that we don't think about all of the time, but it is the reality. We can do our part as best we can, but it is God who keeps us alive.
David knew this even better than we do. He was in danger of losing his life all of the time. He saw people die all of the time. So he had a great perspective on life. (Psalm 54:4) He declared that God was his helper, and the Lord kept him alive. I believe that is the right way to see where we are in life. God is always there to help us, and we need to go to Him for help with everything. He is the One keeping us alive to see another day. We wouldn't be here without Him.
So, why did God keep us alive another day? Why did He make us strong enough to live and do things today? I have a firm belief that God has a plan for every person in the world. He wants everyone to come to know Jesus as Lord and Savior. A person has to be alive to make that decision. Therefore, He keeps us alive to give us a chance for eternal life. Once life comes to an end there are no more chances to turn to Jesus. So, if you don't know Christ, turn to Him today, while God is keeping you alive.
For believers, God keeps us alive to have a relationship with Him and to serve Him. Each day is another day to walk with the Lord. If we fail to do that on any day God keeps us alive, we have failed miserably that day. Also, He keeps us alive to do the things He has laid out for us to do. (Ephesians 2:10) If we miss doing them, we will have to give a reason at the time of the Judgment. If we fail, our failure will effect the lives of others who need to know Jesus and come to serve Him, too. Every day God keeps us alive has eternal consequences. We need to live with that awareness every day.
