What Do You Treasure?
Many of you know that I eat very healthy foods, and I don't overeat, but that doesn't mean that I don't treasure my food. I have several things that I eat every day because I enjoy the taste so much. I have my own recipe for making red cabbage using applesauce and stevia to give it some sweetness. I eat it almost every day. I also love to eat my mango chunks, blueberries, and dates. The same is true for all of my veggies and meat. I treasure my foods, but there is something I treasure much more.
Job was a righteous man, who was blameless before the Lord. He became right with God because he treasured the right things. (Job 23:12) Job said that he had not departed from the Lord's commands, but he had treasured God's words more than daily food. That was the key to Job's righteousness. It should be the testimony of all people, but especially for all Christians. Living by God's Word leads us to Him and leads us in the paths of joy and peace.
God's commands should not be repulsive to us. We should see them as morsels of truth that will lead us to the best life we can have in this world. He commands us to repent of our sins, put our trust in Jesus alone to forgive our sins because of His sacrifice for us, and to surrender to Jesus as Lord. If we obey that command willingly and in love for Him, we will have abundant life. Then, we continue to follow His commands as we walk with Him through life.
In order for all of this to happen, we must treasure the Word of God. We must delight in the Bible. We may not eat food every day, but we should love the Word of God so much and treasure it so much that we read it every day. Not only that, we should treasure it so much that we study it and meditate on it day and night. When we do that we are told in Psalm 1 that we will be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that flourishes and bears fruit as it should. Please, decide today to treasure God's Word more than daily food and partake of it often.
