God's Promises

The book of Deuteronomy is mostly focused on the commands of the Lord. Moses is teaching the new generation God's instructions before they were to conquer the Promised Land. All of the commands are important, and we still benefit from following many of them today. However, it is also good to focus on the promises of God. We can always count on God to fulfill His promises. They are to give us hope as we live our lives of obedience to His commands.

There is one promise that God gave to Joshua that embodies a lot of the promises He gives to His people in the rest of the Bible. It would be good for us to memorize this promise for that reason. (Deuteronomy 31:6) We can always be strong and courageous. We should never be afraid or panic before our adversaries, because God will personally go ahead of us. He will neither fail us nor abandon us in all He leads us to do. I believe God has given all of His children these assurances.

There is no need for any Christian to be weak and overwhelmed. We have the Lord with us. He is our God, and He will give us His strength as we trust Him daily. Because of God's presence and power, we never should be afraid of anyone or anything but Him. We should never panic at the thought of what might happen or what is happening to us. We should cry out to God for His peace that He freely gives us. Our confidence doesn't come from ourselves. It comes from our relationship with Jesus.

We can always count on the fact that God is going before us. He knows what is going to happen to us, and He is preparing the way for us. He might lead us through a trial, but He will never fail us, and He will never abandon us. God is so powerful and wise He cannot fail at anything. We just have to submit to Him and see Him work things out. He will never leave us. He will always be there for us, as we follow Him in love. See what I mean? That is a great promise for all of us to take with us all the time.
