God's Assurance of Future Victory

Many people live in anxiety about what is going to happen to them in the future. They set out each day to do their best to handle whatever comes that day. They try to make plans for their lives in the future. However, some days don't go very well. Some of the plans they make don't come to fruition. This leads them to have more uncertainty and anxiety. All of this can be avoided by living life in the right way.

Joshua was set on doing God's will. He knew that they Lord wanted him to lead the Israelites to conquer Canaan and all of the peoples who lived there. (Joshua 6:2) So after they crossed the Jordan River on dry ground the Lord said to Joshua, "I have given you Jericho, its king, and all its strong warriors." What a blessing! God gave Joshua His assurance of victory over Jericho in advance. He will do much the same thing for us today, as we live by trusting Him.

Why do you do what you do each day? We should seek God's will from the Bible and in our prayers, so that we live each day carrying out His will for our lives. We must not just try to do our best and make our own plans. We don't have the power to see the future or to live in victory ourselves. Our victories in life will come as we hear from the Lord and do as He directs. When we hear from Him that is His assurance that He will give us the victory in doing His will.

Therefore, when we live in this way, we fight from victory, not to victory. We live knowing that God is with us to ensure our success as we continue to depend on Him and obey Him each day. I have seen this over and over, as I went to college and seminary, as I got married and had children, as I bought and sold houses. God had it all planned out, so all I had to do was to follow His plan. I am still doing the same thing today, knowing God will show me the way and then fight for me.
