Sufferings or Glory?

Some people are always complaining about things in their life. They look at the troubles, and they concentrate on them, which just makes them seem worse than ever. Listen, life is short. We don't need to be looking at all of the negative things we face. We need to be looking at all of the positive aspects of life. In the process we need to be thanking God for all He has done for us, as well as what He is and what He will do for us. That makes life so much better.

The Lord showed this to Paul, so he could write it down for us to read today. (Romans 8:18) Paul said, "For I consider the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us." There is a lot for us to consider in this verse, so we can consider things in the right way like Paul had learned to do. Then, we will be able to go through all he went through and remain faithful and strong like Paul did.

Sometimes we sit around with others and tell about our troubles. When one of us finishes telling about something difficult that has happened, the next person chimes in with something that is even worse. This can go on for a long time, unless someone changes the subject. Does that really accomplish anything worthwhile? I don't think so. It causes us to have a negative mindset about life.

What if the next time that conversation started we chimed in by telling how glorious it was going to be when we get to heaven?  We could relate the wonders of the golden streets and the glorious worship at the throne of God. We could tell all of them how all of our tears, pain, and sorrow will be gone forever, and we will be at perfect peace with God and everyone else forever. Then, we could just remind them that all of our problems and sufferings here are not worthy to be compared with all the glories of heaven. I think that might open some eyes to get people to be sure they are going to heaven by knowing Jesus.
