Able to Admonish One Another

As Christians, we need each other. As the Bible says, "Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another." (Proverbs 27:17) We will get pretty dull spiritually if we never interact with other Christians in a meaningful way. We need other Christians to correct us and teach us, and we need to be doing the same for them. That is God's plan for us all to grow to be like Jesus.

Paul was very clear about our ability to admonish one another as believers. (Romans 15:14) He told the Christians in the church at Rome that he was confident concerning them, as his brethren, that they were full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another. This is true for everyone who knows Jesus as Lord and Savior. Let's consider what God is saying  here.

Once we are saved we have the Holy Spirit in us. God changes our heart, so that we have a new heart that desires to please God. We  are full of goodness because  God is in us, and He enables us to do what is good and right. We  are also filled with all knowledge. That is the work of the Holy Spirit in our life. He leads us into all knowledge. Therefore, as we follow the Spirit we will know how to help others.

So if we are being faithful to God, and we are allowing the Holy Spirit to fill us, to be in control of our life, we will be able to admonish other believers in the right way, so they are encouraged or corrected, whatever they need. This is not just a good idea, like I said. It is God's plan, and if we don't do it, we are disobeying God, and we are not doing our part to help the church grow.
