Being Known by God

It is great to be known by other people. I walked into the grocery store the other day, and one of the employees whom I did not know, welcomed me by name. I am not sure how she knew me, but she did not know me very well. On the other hand, I have family members and friends who know me very well. They know my weaknesses, and they still love me. However, the crucial relationship for all of us is for God to know us. That changes everything.

The Bible tells us how we can be assured that God knows us. (I Corinthians 8:3) "But if anyone loves God, this one is known by Him." Sounds simple doesn't it? But I am not sure it is as simple as it sounds. Let's stop and consider what this verse is trying to get across to all of us, so we can really be sure that God knows us.

There are people who say they love God. However, their love falls short of what the Bible says we will do if we really love God. The Bible is clear that if we love God, we will keep His commandments. (I John 5:3) Therefore, anyone who says they love God, but they are not keeping His commandments, is not really loving God. Love is a choice, and when we choose to love someone, we will do what they want us to do. The same is true for our relationship with God.

Love is not just a feeling or an emotion. It is not just good intentions. Love follows through. God sees our hearts, and He sees our works When He sees that we are really loving Him, He knows us, and we enter a love relationship with God that is real and personal. Anything less than that is not knowing God or being known by God. Let's make sure we really love God today and every day.
