Crushing God's Heart

I have spoken with many people lately who have had very traumatic things happen to them or to their family members. They have poured out words describing the emotions they have felt. More than once I have heard them say that they or a loved one were crushed by what had happened. That is a very good way to describe what it feels like to have something terrible happen to us. It is like our heart has been so hurt that it can't feel anymore.

Do you know that is how God feels when we blatantly sin against Him? (Ezekiel 6:9) He told the ones of the house of Israel who escaped the destruction of their land that when they got to the land of their exile they would remember Him, because He was crushed by their adulterous hearts that departed from Him and by their eyes which played the harlot after their idols. Then, they would loathe themselves for the evil which they committed with all their abominations. Let's stop to consider the heart of God.

God loves us with an unconditional, everlasting love. He desires a close personal relationship with each of us. When we reject Him, and we give our hearts to other people or idols, it crushes the heart of God. He can't believe that we would do that after all of the blessings He has bestowed on us and all the love He has shown us. When He sees us longing for idols instead of Him, it crushes Him more than we could ever imagine. That is the heart of our God.

So we all need to stop and ask the Holy Spirit to show us any things we have done to crush the heart of God. We need to loathe ourselves for hurting the heart of the One True and living God. We need to confess those things and repent, because we realize how much we have hurt Him and ourselves by our attitudes an actions. Then, we need to set our hearts on loving Him first and foremost from now on. That is not the most we can do. It is the least we can do for our Loving God.
