Pour Out Your Heart like Water
We think of our heart as being the seat of our emotions. Our heart can get full of all kinds of emotions. It can be full of sadness or joy. It can be full of depression or rejoicing. It can be full of frustration or accomplishment. Sometimes, we can feel like our heart is going to burst because it is so full. We always need to remember that we ought to pour out what is in our heart in the right way and not hold it in. That solves a lot of problems.
Jeremiah was the "weeping prophet." He wrote the book of Lamentations under God's inspiration. He was crying out to God for his people. He encouraged them to cry out to God, too. (Lamentations 2:19) He told them to arise and cry out in the night and pour out their hearts like water before the face of the Lord. He told them to lift their hands toward Him for the life of the young children who were fainting from hunger in Jerusalem, as it was being besieged. I think we need to apply what he is saying to our times today, too.
Our children are being killed in school and in church. Our whole population is suffering under the burden of evil that is growing all around us. This should cause us, as Christians, to have hearts full of love and concern for the people of our country. We should care enough to spend time in earnest prayer, and pour out our hearts for all those around us to come to the Lord and find release from the evil that is attacking them.
This is also true for our families and others for whom we care so much. Our hearts should be full of sadness and concern for those who are suffering physical pain or broken relationships or grief. It should be such a burden in us that we stop to pour out our hearts like water to the Lord for them and intercede for God to intervene in their lives and bring peace and joy. God is a Good Father. He loves His children, and He responds when we pour out our hearts to Him.
