Understanding the Scriptures
One thing that would help everyone in the world is a correct understanding of the Scriptures. However, most people discount their importance, and they study science and philosophy, instead. Others who do study the Bible come at it with a personal bias, so they misunderstand the real meaning. Either way, they miss out on the things God wants all of us to know.
Jesus was confronted by the religious leaders as they tried to catch Him in a mistake or a falsehood. Jesus always confounded them with His answers. (Mark 12:24) On one occasion He said to them, "Is this not the reason you are mistaken, that you do not understand the Scriptures nor the power of God?" That is the reason most people do not understand the basic truths of life.
The Bible is God's Word. He inspired them to be written down for us. They are truth without any mixture of error. Therefore, the Bible gives us the correct understanding of anything it mentions. It enables us to see God's perspective which is always the right way to look at things.
The Bible contains 66 books written over a 1,500 year period by 40 different authors who were inspired by God. It is necessary for us to understand the entire Bible and not take short passages or single verses out of context. Once we study all of the passages on a subject and see them objectively by the illumination of the Spirit, we have all the truth we need on that subject.
