Jesus' Caring Heart
There are some things that just arrest our attention when we see them. This is especially true when we see something that is very sad. It touches our heart strings. All of a sudden we feel like we need to stop what we are doing and help the other person in need. That kind of love comes to us from the heart of Jesus. He is touched by those things in that way, too.
When Jesus was passing through the town of Nain, He encountered a funeral procession for a young man, who was the only son of a widow. (Luke 7:14-15) Jesus came up and touched the coffin, and the bearers stopped walking. Then, Jesus said, "Young man, I say to you, arise." The dead man sat up and started talking. Then, Jesus gave him back to his mother. This shows us a lot about Jesus' heart.
A widow had no way to care for herself in Jesus' day, if she did not have children to care for her. Many widows ended up having to be beggars. Evidently, Jesus did not want this to happen to this lady, so He brought her son back to life, so he could care for her. We should be assured of His care for us when we face situations like this, as well.
Jesus knows what each of us is going through right now. He is there to meet our needs, as we trust Him. His caring heart doesn't want us to have to suffer, unless it is necessary for us to accomplish God's will and to become more like Jesus. Therefore, when we face very difficult situations, we can know that Jesus cares, and He is ready to help us avoid the suffering or to walk with us through the suffering, which ever is better for us.
