Being Honest in Business

God puts a premium on being honest in our business dealings. I know we are not all in business for our occupation, but we all do business with others in many ways. It is a temptation to be dishonest in those business dealings, so that we profit more. That is a terrible sin. God warned Israel of this. (Deuteronomy 25:15) He told them to use only full and just weights and measures in their transactions. The result would be He would prolong their days in the land of Canaan. However, I am sure the opposite is true, also. I believe we, as believers, need to consider the personal implications of this truth today.

Do we want others to treat us fairly and not cheat us in our dealings with them? Of course, we do. Then, we need to make sure we treat everyone with whom we have business dealings in the way we want to be treated. We must give a full day's work for a full day's pay. When we buy and sell, we must do it honestly, not hiding anything in the process. This even extends to doing our taxes this time of year. We must not hide income or fudge on our figures. Remember, God promises to bless us if we are honest in our dealings. Can we afford to lose the blessing of God on what we do? I don't think so. Therefore, let's determine to be honest in all of our personal business and be examples to the people of this world who would cheat people to make more profit.
