Complete Obedience

Obedience is very important for believers. Jesus is the Lord of all. God is sovereign. We are His children and His servants, so our place is to obey all that He says to us. When we do that, He blesses us because what He says is always for our good. When Moses came down from meeting with God on Mt. Sinai, he wrote down all of the words the Lord said to him. This was the book of the covenant God had made with His people. (Exodus 24:7) Then, Moses read the book of the covenant in the hearing of the people. Their reaction was just what God desired. They told God they would do all that He had spoken, and they would be obedient. That is a great description of complete obedience.

God's words are always true and perfect. When He speaks to us, everything He says has meaning and purpose. We are to live by "every word that proceeds from the mouth of God." (Matthew 4:4) Therefore, there is no room for compromise or for leaving out part of what God said. The only correct option is complete obedience. That is why Christians cherish the entire Bible. All of the 66 books were inspired by God, so that the Holy Spirit spoke to the men who wrote down God's words in their own language and their own words, but they were all the "breathed in" words of God. Now, we are to read His words, study them, and memorize them, so we have them in our hearts, ready to obey at any time. The Bible is our sole authority for what we believe and how we live, because it is all the words of God. We must not leave off obeying any part of His Word, and we can't change it because present day culture is different from what God has said. Let's decide, like Israel, to obey all of the words of the Lord.
