Swallowing God's Word

We are so blessed to have the Word of God, the Bible, so we can read it. It is a joy to savor the nuggets of truth in it. However, once we swallow the Word, it can make our stomach curdle. That is what happened to John when he was told to eat the little book from the Angel. (Revelation 10:10) He took it and ate it. It was sweet in his mouth, but when he swallowed it, his stomach curdled. That is not a pleasant feeling, but it happens for a reason. Let's consider this truth today.

The message of God to us through His Word can curdle our stomach when we realize just what God expects us to do because of His truth. God's will and His ways are not always easy, but they are always the right way for us to go. We must just swallow hard and do whatever He says to us, even if it is unpleasant. This is also true when God's Word shows us what we must share with others. Sometimes, like John here in Revelation, we are called on by God to deliver His message from His Word, and it is a painful one. We must not shy away from sharing the truth, even if it hurts the other person, initially. God has a good reason for telling us to be His messenger. We must obey, even when the message curdles our stomach. That is how God's Word is both sweet to the taste, but sour in the stomach. However, if we do what God shows us, we and others are made stronger by receiving God's Word and acting on it.
