A Fast to Humble Ourselves and Pray

God responds to the prayers of faithful believers who have clean hearts. Sometimes, we need to do something extra to ensure we are clean before God, and we show Him how desperate we are for His will to be done. It seems we might be in just such a time now with this pandemic and needing God's intervention in many ways. Ezra found himself in this situation with the people of God as they prepared for a long dangerous journey from Babylon to Jerusalem. That is why he proclaimed a fast to humble themselves before God and pray for His guidance for their journey to protect the people and their possessions. (Ezra 8:21)  This could be a great cue for us, as believers, in our situation, too.

A time of fasting is one of God's ways to get us right on track for Him. It shows God how we are so serious about knowing His will, we will go without food for a meal, a day, a week, or even longer. Then, we humble ourselves to cry out to Him and ask for His will. We use the extra time to pray and seek His face. Often, God honors this fasting and prayer in a miraculous way. It is not to punish our body. It is to focus on God. I pray that we all will consider fasting for our country and for our church during these next few weeks of May. Only do it, if God leads you and it will not harm your health. Then, let's watch to see how God works to bring the corona virus to an end and to help us get our church started up again.
