Planting Seeds of Destruction

Once Joshua divided the land of Canaan among the remaining tribes, each tribe was supposed to trust God and conquer their area. This meant they were to drive out the Canaanites completely. That was God's command. Each tribe knew this, but none of them did it. When they ran into resistance, they gave up trying to drive them out and simply made them their forced laborers. (Joshua 17:12,13) This was a very grave sin, and it planted the seeds for their destruction years later. I wonder what we are doing now that might be doing the same thing for our descendants?

We are often tempted to compromise what we know is right and good. Sometimes, we give up on the commands of God because we run into opposition from our family and friends. Other times, we justify our disobedience by using our own logic instead of simply obeying God. Whatever causes us to fall short of what God commands, it starts us down the road to destruction, if we do not repent and obey Him. God knows our weaknesses. He knows when we will give in to temptations, so if He tells us to eliminate the source of a temptation, like He told Israel, we better do it. If not, we will eventually give in, start living in sin, and then, we will face the harsh anger of God, even to our destruction. Let's learn a lesson from the tribes of Israel. Let's decide to do the hard work of following the Lord fully, so we can sow seeds of success, instead of destruction.
