Confidence in God's Promises

When Joshua got older, he called the people together to make sure they stayed on track with the Lord. He encouraged them to complete their conquest of the land of Canaan by trusting the Lord, so He would fight for them. Then, he reminded them that they should know with all of their hearts and everything in them that not one detail had failed of all the good things that God had promised them. It all happened just like He said it would down to the last word. (Joshua 23:14) What a testimony for all of God's people! I wonder if we have that kind of confidence in the promises of God to us?

The Bible is full of promises. Some promises are for specific people, while others are only for Israel. However, there are many general promises or promises that God gave for us as believers today. He desires for us to live by those promises. When we read one, we should decide to believe it and to adjust our life to what God promises to show we believe it with all of our heart. In fact, we should believe every word of what God has promised will happen, so that we live with expectation every day of what God will do to continue to fulfill each promise for us. This is how we are to live by faith and to live in the hope of all that God has for us, instead of focusing on the bad things that happen all of the time. Remember, God works all things together for good to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28)
