The Day of Atonement

There is one day of each year that is the most solemn and holy day for every religious Jewish person. It is a day of fasting and praying. It is a holy Sabbath to the Lord in which no work is done. This day commemorates the day that the High Priest would enter the Holiest place in the Temple to offer blood for his sins and the sins of all of the people. This is the way God had shown Moses for all of the sins to be atoned or paid for each year. (Leviticus 16:45) Without this one day of the year all of the people would die in their sins with no hope for salvation. However, now we all do not look back on this day of atonement, but on the Ultimate Day of Atonement.

There was one day when the God/Man, Jesus Christ, offered Himself as payment for the sins of all mankind, once for all. This was the day He died on a cruel cross, shedding His blood, His perfect blood, as the full payment of the sin debt of every person who ever lived or ever would live. He did not enter the Holiest place in the Temple of Jerusalem to sprinkle His blood on the Mercy Seat of the Ark of the Covenant, but He entered the Temple in Heaven to sprinkle His blood there for the Father to see. This came after He cried out with a loud voice from the cross, "It is finished." He did all that the Father commanded to atone for all sins. Then, when He arose from the dead 3 days later, the veil of the Temple that served as a door to the Holiest Place, was split in two, from the top to the bottom. That showed everyone that atonement was complete, and each of us can enter the Holiest place through the blood of Jesus, once we trust Him as our Lord and Savior. Hallelujah for the Savior and for THE DAY OF ATONEMENT.
