Holy to God

Under the Old Covenant law only the family of Aaron from the tribe of Levi could serve as priests to carry out God's sacrifices and other activities in the Tabernacle. God specifically told Moses how to make each item of their clothing, so that they would be dressed uniquely. Each item of clothing had a meaning or purpose. One thing that the priests wore was a turban. On the turban was a plate, a crown of pure gold. This crown was fastened to the turban by a blue cord, and it was engraved with the words, "Holy to God." (Exodus 39:30,31) This reminded everyone that God had chosen the priests to do this special responsibility, and they were set apart from the rest of the people to be God's representatives. This was a huge honor, and God took it seriously, and it was important for the priests to take it seriously, too.

Today, as I have said many times, all believers are holy to God. That is what the word "saint" means, and we are all saints. I believe we need to take this seriously, because God takes it seriously. We have been chosen by God to be His representatives in this world. We are to be the ones who serve Him. We have a special responsibility. We stand between God and other people. This is because we have come to know God through trusting Christ as Lord and Savior, and we know people, since we are human. That makes us able to relate to God and others in such a way that we can show people the way to God. However, if we are to be effective in this vital task, we must be different from other people. That difference is not by how we dress under the New Covenant. It is by the quality of our life. Others should see the difference in us by what we say and do. Therefore, I believe it would help every believer to imagine we have a crown of gold for all to see, and the crown says "Holy to God." Then, we would never forget what we are set apart to do when we meet other people.
