Be Holy !

We are commanded to be holy. This command is given several times, both in the Old Testament and in the New Testament. As my childhood pastor, Pastor Arwood, told us, "If something is in the Bible once, it is important. If something is in the Bible more than once, it is very important." There is no doubt God wants us to be holy, because He is holy. (Leviticus 11:45) We need to make sure we know what it means to be holy and how we can become holy, as God desires.

God is holy. He is  totally separated from any sin of any kind. Also, God is holy, because He always does the right thing in the right way in every circumstance. Therefore, we see that holiness has two sides. We must be separated from sin. That happens when we are saved from our sins by trusting Jesus as our Lord and Savior. We repent of our sins, so that we turn from all sin, admit that our way is wrong, and we follow the Lord's way. When we do that we are set apart from sin by being adopted into God's family. However, there is still more to do for us to "be holy." Once we are a believer, we must determine to hate sin, and to love the Lord so much that we will consistently do His will out of love, not just out of duty. This takes our daily, moment by moment, commitment to live out what God commands in His Word, and to strive to be like Jesus. Of course, we can't do that without the power of the Spirit, but once we yield fully to the Spirit, He will teach us, guide us, and empower us to be holy. Then, the longer we live, the more we will be like Jesus, who is perfectly holy. I pray we will all obey God's command and be holy, for His honor and glory.
