Growing God's Way

We all grow up and progress toward maturity, whether we do it well or not. It is a natural process for the body to increase in size as we eat and sleep, but we may not do the things which really make us healthy. Our intellectual, spiritual, and emotional development happen, too, as we encounter life and interact with others, but we can develop all types of problems if our development is not guided correctly. Unfortunately, we are seeing many people today who grew up, but they did not do it God's way, so they are dysfunctional in many ways. Jesus did not have those problems. He grew up God's way. (Luke 2:52) We can all learn from the description given to us by Luke. I pray we will spend some time reflecting on our lives today.

Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature. He was taught the Bible, and He learned from God's Word and the instruction of His godly parents, so that He was able to see things God's way. That is wisdom. Since Jesus was a man and God, He grew in that wisdom, as He grew physically. I am sure He became strong as he assisted Joseph with his carpenter work and played with his brothers and sisters. All of these things led to his healthy development physically, socially, and spiritually. Jesus also grew in favor with God and people. He came to know what pleased God, and He did it. He disciplined Himself to obey His parents and His heavenly Father. Therefore,  He grew in His favor with God. Then, Jesus grew in favor with people by caring for them and learning to relate well to others. He treated others as He wanted them to treat Him, and He showed them genuine love. That is why others loved to be around Jesus.

I hope we will consider how we can grow in God's wisdom, as well as, how we can be physically healthy, so we can be able to live life as God intends for us. Also, I pray that we will learn what pleases God, and discipline ourselves to do things His way, not our way. Finally, Wouldn't it be great if we could all have favor with all of the people we know, since we treat them with love and respect? All of that is growing God's way.
