Forgive and Be Forgiven

Jesus is very clear about forgiveness. As believers, we are to forgive others, no matter what they do to us. This is very important when we are praying, because God sees our heart. He knows if we are not willing to forgive another person. If that is the case, not only will he not forgive our wrongdoing, but it affects how God hears our prayers, since we are keeping this sin in our heart. (Mark 11:25) Therefore, this is a very important truth for all of us to grasp and apply.

Jesus provided payment for our sins, when He died on the cross. When we trust Him as our Lord and Savior,  Jesus forgives our sins and cleanses us from them. We stand before God, the Father, with the righteousness of Christ. However, when we sin after we are saved, our sins affect our relationship with God. He can't bless us and restore our close relationship, unless we confess our sins and repent of them. However, once we do that, everything is fine. I hope that helps us see why forgiveness is such a big deal. Jesus paid it all for all of our sins to be able to be forgiven. Therefore, we should hate sin as He does. We should stay away from sin, but when we fall into sin, we must confess it quickly and repent. If we don't do that, God sees that our hearts are not pure, so He can't forgive us and restore our relationship until we come clean with Him.
