The Stumbling Block of Their Iniquity

People search after ways to get rich all of the time. They think it will cause them to be happy and to have security. However, the money becomes an idol which they serve, instead of serving the Lord alone. That is when God has to take action to show us the perils of striving for more and more money. If He needs to do it to get our attention, He can do what He did in Ezekiel's day. He can make the money worthless, or cause the food to run out, so our money does us no good at all. We can't eat it at a time like that. It is God's way of showing us that it was the stumbling block of our iniquity. (Ezekiel 7:19) I wonder if that is what God will have to do in America and in our world to get people's attention?

Money can be very good. It can be used as a tool to do God's will. It can be used to feed people, clothe people, and to share the Gospel with people. However, very few people are generous with their money in those ways. They are making money for themselves. Their motives are very selfish. They do not give or share. They simply try to build up enough money to be secure for the rest of their life. The problem is that our only security comes from knowing the Lord, and when we desire to get rich, the money keeps us from following the Lord. Many people work extra hours. They work to make money or they scheme to make money, instead of spending their time pursuing the things of God. That is when money if a stumbling block. God loves us so much that He has to show us that money is really worthless when it comes to sustaining our life. When we die, we leave it all behind, and without Him, we spend eternity in hell. That is why God engineers circumstances like He did in Jerusalem to show us that we need Him, not more money. I pray that we will all stop stumbling over money and run to the Lord, so we can have real life in Christ for eternity.
