Striking and Healing

One of the prophecies of Isaiah that will be fulfilled in the future is about the people of Egypt. One day Egypt will know the Lord, and the people will offer sacrifices and offerings to Him. They will make vows to the Lord and keep them. (Isaiah 19:21,22) That is amazing for us to consider today. Egypt has some Christians now, but they are a small, persecuted minority. Therefore, we might ask the Lord, "How will this conversion take place?" Isaiah told us how this will happen, and it is not just a lesson for Egypt but for all of us.

The Lord will strike Egypt. The reason He will strike them will be His love for them. It will be a case of "striking and healing." God will strike them, so He can get their attention, and they will turn to Him. Then, God will be receptive to their prayers, since they enter a relationship with Jesus. I believe this shows us the character of God. He loves us enough to punish us, so we will see our sins and turn to the Only One who can forgive our sins. He strikes us, so we will see that we are trusting in the wrong things and so we will begin to look to Him for everything. Once we do trust the Lord Jesus and turn to Him, the Lord is tuned in to our prayers. He wants to answer the prayers of His children.

This is why we should not get angry with the Lord when He strikes us in some way. We should turn to Him and ask Him what we have done wrong. Then, we can confess our sins, repent, and walk with Him. As we walk and talk with the Lord, He hears our prayers and answers them according to His will.
