When the Enemy Plots an Attack

We all have enemies. Christians have even more enemies than most people. We have the world, the flesh, and the devil fighting against us to keep us from doing God's will. If we are not diligent to do the right things, we will be defeated, or at least, we will be side-tracked, so that we are ineffective for the Lord. Nehemiah faced a similar situation as he led the people of Jerusalem to rebuild the walls of the city. The enemies saw what was happening, so they plotted together about how to throw the city into confusion and stop the work on the walls. (Nehemiah 4:8,9) What the people of Jerusalem did was the same thing we need to do today.

First of all, the people prayed to God. Prayer is our great weapon against all enemies, because the battle is the Lord's. Therefore, we must pray for God to intervene in His way to save us from our enemies. Make no mistake. God is able to deliver us, and we must depend on Him fully. However, we also need to do our part to set a guard against the attacks. Our guard must be up day and night, so the world, the flesh, and the devil can't even get a foothold on our life. We can guard the media we watch, and we can watch what we read. We can refrain from going to the wrong kinds of places and hanging out with the wrong people. We can avoid any situation which would tempt us to do the will of the world, the flesh, or the devil. If we do both of these things well, we can win the battle and do God's will every time. That is why I say, "We should pray like it all depends on the Lord and work like it all depends on us." When we do that God will see our hearts and bless us in our lives.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Nehemiah 5-7.
