God Working Through Us

Nehemiah returned to Jerusalem to accomplish what some people would have said was an impossible task. The people of Israel were not engineers, architects, or builders. They faced overwhelming opposition from the surrounding nations. Even the removal of the debris left from the destruction of Jerusalem was a huge job. However, this task was completed in just 52 days, less than 2 months. What a miracle! All of their enemies and the surrounding nations watched this happen, and they were intimidated because they knew God had accomplished this rebuilding project. (Nehemiah 6:15,16) Of course, He used His people to do the work, and He worked through them to give them the power and ability needed to be successful. The same thing is true for us, as believers, today.

God does His work in this world by working in and through those who belong to Him. We are His hands and feet. We are His voice. If we do not do His work in His power, it will not get done, as He desires. Yes, He can get someone else, but it is much better if we prayerfully listen to Him and obey like Nehemiah did. Therefore, we must begin with prayer. When God gives us a burden or a vision for our task, then, we submit to His leadership, as He works out the details and gives us what we need. Then, we faithfully work at His task depending on Him each step of the way. We will be amazed at what He is doing through us, and others will know that we did it only by God accomplishing it through us. That is a great testimony to bring them to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior, too.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Nehemiah 8-10.
