Failing to Inquire of God

Once David became king over all Israel, they went up to Jerusalem and took it to be the city of David. Then, one of his first actions was to make a plan to bring the ark of God up to Jerusalem, so they could inquire of the Lord properly. Unfortunately his plan was flawed, but His purpose was very pure and worthy. He knew that during Saul's reign, they did not inquire of the Lord. That is one reason disaster came on Saul and his family (I Chronicles 13:3) David was determined not to make that mistake. We can learn from David's actions.

Our first priority after we come to know the Lord, should be to fully submit to Him as the personal Lord of our life. That means we will do whatever He has for us to do. Therefore, praying to God to show us His will must be one of our foremost concerns. Yes, we need to continue to grow in our relationship with Him through staying in His Word daily. We need to praise Him and thank Him in prayer and worship. We should be faithful in praying for the needs of others and our own needs. Along with all of this, we must seek the Lord daily, asking Him to show us what He has for us to do that day, asking for His power to do it His way. How is that going in your life? I can guarantee that if you do not inquire of the Lord regularly, your life will not be what it should be.

Sunday, I heard Robby Gallaty say it this was way: "The more we know Him, the more we will love Him. The more we love Him, the more we will obey Him. The more we obey Him, the more He manifests Himself to us." This is a continuous cycle of growth, or we will slip far away from the Lord. We must inquire of Him to obey Him fully, so let's do it well.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Chronicles 14-16.
