Receiving God's Instructions

Moses was the leader of the Israelites. God called him to be the one to lead them out from under Pharaoh's grip, and he was the one to lead them to the Promised Land. Since God was using Moses to lead the people, He had to communicate with him to show him and the people what to do. He did that in various ways. The first time He spoke out of a burning bush that was not consumed by the fire. When they came to Mt. Sinai, God came down on the mountain. Then, He called Moses to come up on the mountain to receive the law and commandments for the people. (Exodus 24:12,18) I am sure it was an extraordinary experience. I believe we can learn some things to help us receive God's instructions for us.

Moses entered the presence of the Lord, but the other leaders could not. They had to stay back at a distance. Moses had to be clean in order to come before the Lord. The same is true for us today. If we want to be ready, we must confess our sins faithfully. (I John 1:9) Then, we must obey what God tells us to do to enter His presence. Moses had to come up the mountain, but we could meet Him anywhere He chooses. God had very clear instructions. The ones for Moses were written on stone tablets by the Lord Himself. Now, we have the very words of the Lord recorded in the Bible for us. Sometimes, we enter His presence by reading His Word and allowing Him to speak to us through the Bible. When Moses went up the mountain, the cloud of God's glory was all around him. We will be able to tell when we really come into God's presence. It is more than a feeling. It is His revelation of Himself to us. Finally, we need to stay until we receive all of His instruction, just like Moses did. We can't speed up the process or be in a hurry. Now, experiencing God's glory does not happen very often, but it could happen to any believer, so we need to be prepared for these holy times and cherish them. However, we should receive His instructions every day.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Exodus 26-28
