Weeping and Seeking

There are two things that go together very well in the eyes of the Lord. When we come to Him with weeping it shows the sincerity of our heart. God loves to see become serious about our sins and our need for forgiveness. Then, when we weep before the Lord, we are in the right position to seek Him and find Him. God responds to faithful, contrite hearts that are mold-able. Jeremiah foretold a day when the people of Israel and Judah would come together at the end of the exile in Babylon. They would come weeping, and they would be seeking the Lord. (Jeremiah 50:4) That is when they would be ready to do business with the Lord.

When was the last time that you came humbly before the Lord in a spirit of repentance and seeking? I believe it should be something we do fairly often. Let's face the reality of our lives. Even if we have been believers for many years, and we have come to be strong in the Lord, we still sin and fall short of the glory of God. We still fail to do the right things at times, or we are not instantly obedient to God, so that we miss an important opportunity in our lives to do His will. These things will grieve our hearts, if we are sensitive to the Lord. We should stop and confess with weeping. Then, we should earnestly seek the Lord and ask Him to show us how to overcome those shortcomings in the future. If we come to Him like that, He will show us, and we can make a commitment to Him based on His revelation to us. That is a great way to grow in the Lord.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Jeremiah 50-51 and Lamentation 1.
