Wisdom and Understanding
When we think of wisdom, most of us think of king Solomon and the book of Proverbs. Did you know that a chapter in Job is devoted to finding wisdom? Job had learned from the Lord where to find wisdom and understanding. (Job 28:28) Isn't it amazing that his definition lines up with what Solomon told us 1,000 years later? That is more proof of the inspiration of the Bible and the fact that God is the author of all of it. Let's look at what Job said.
The revelation of God to Job was that the fear of the Lord is wisdom. In other words, we get wisdom when we so respect God that we bow before Him in awe of His greatness. Then, we ask Him to show us His way. When we fear Him like that, He always shows us His wisdom. When He does that we come to know that understanding is to depart from evil. It is always wise to run from doing wrong and to pursue what is right. When we do that we understand the goodness and severity of God. He is good to those who obey Him, and His punishes those who do evil. His punishment is an act of love to point us to what is right. The truth is that wisdom and understanding have never changed, and they will never change. God established truth, and God never changes.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Job 31-33.
