My Heart Does Not Reproach Me
Job knew in his heart that he was righteous before the Lord. His friends kept saying he was suffering for his sins, and that hurt him a lot. However, if he lied and said that they were right, he would not be righteous any more. Therefore, Job had to stand in his integrity. Since his heart did not reproach him for any of his days, he held fast to his righteousness. (Job 27:5,6) I wonder if we could say the same thing?
Our heart is our inner person. When God speaks to us, He speaks to our heart. It is our heart that condemns us when we sin and do wrong. It is out of the heart that the issues of life flow. When our heart is right with the Lord, we are righteous. However, when we sin, our heart reproaches us. It throws our sins up in our face, so we know how we have sinned. This allows us to make it right through confession and repentance. If our heart does not reproach us, then, we can be confident that we have not sinned. However, when we have hard hearts, or when we have taught our hearts the wrong things, it can be much more difficult for us to hear what God is saying, because our hearts are dull. That is a very serious condition. We must go to the Lord and ask Him to renew our heart, as David did in Psalm 51. Then, we can hear from the Lord and do His will.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Job 28-30.
