National Repentance
How can a country that once followed the Lord return to Him? That is what Joel addressed for the country of Israel. (Joel 1:14) I know that the USA was never a theocracy, like Israel, but we were founded on Christian principles by many men who were devout believers. It could be that we need to do these same things to get our country to return to our Biblical faith in the Lord.
"Consecrate a fast." That shows God the sincerity of our hearts, when we give up food to concentrate on Him. "Proclaim a solemn assembly." This is a very somber gathering that focuses on confession of sins and repentance from those sins. "Gather the elders and the inhabitants of the land to the house of the Lord your God." We need to come together, all of the leaders and the common people, as one to seek the Lord's favor. Finally, "Cry out to the Lord." God hears fervent prayers from people who are very serious about their situation.
The question is, "Will we have that kind of movement in America?" If we would see that, I know the Lord is ready and able to change our country for the better, as He changes one heart at a time. It starts with me and you. Let's pray fervently, and ask God to bring a wave of conviction over our people, then, perhaps we can gather like this to cry out to the Lord, so He hears us.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Joel 2-3 and Amos 1.
