Jesus Shall Reign From Jerusalem
All believers should long for the second coming of the Lord Jesus. This is especially true as the world gets farther and farther from God. Zechariah gave us a glimpse into what will happen when Jesus returns. (Zechariah 8:3) I believe it brings us much hope to hear what will happen.
Jesus will return to Zion and live in the midst of Jerusalem. This is God's special place in this world. He dwelt there in the Old Testament times, when His glory filled the Temple. The same thing will happen in the future, but this time it will be Jesus, and He will come down in His glorified body. He will reign from the Temple in Jerusalem. That is why it shall be called the City of Truth. Jesus is Truth. (John 14:6) He will dispense His truth to all who come to worship Him there.
Jerusalem is a city build on a mountain. In that day it will be the Mountain of the Lord of hosts, the Holy Mountain. All the peoples who are on the earth for the 1,000 year reign of Christ will travel to that mountain which is holy or set apart from the rest of the world. They will go to worship, but also to see the Lord of hosts. Then, they will come away knowing Jesus is Lord.
This is God's plan for the end of the world. It will come to pass. He showed it to Zechariah and many of the prophets. We can live with the sure hope that one day we will see Jesus in Jerusalem reigning over the world in truth. All of the evils of this world will be gone for that time. It will be the prelude to life with Jesus in Heaven for eternity.
