God's Authority to Lead His Work

We must always remember that our church belongs to Jesus, not to us. He is the Head of the church, and He gets to direct as He sees fit. Those of us who are called to be full time servants of the Lord in church leadership positions, always work under His authority and direction, not our own. The High Priest in Zechariah's day was Joshua, and God taught him this lesson and how to receive the authority to lead God's work. (Zechariah 3:1-2) We all need to hear this and learn this lesson, because all of us need God's authority to do what He has called us to do.

Before God will grant us His authority to lead in His work, we must walk in His ways and keep His commands. Then, He allows us to oversee His house or His work. This is easy to understand, but profound. If we fail to do God's will, why would be want us to be a leader? How can we expect to lead others where we have not been ourselves? Also, it is a very bad reflection on the Lord if His leaders are disobedient. This turns unbelievers off to the Lord.

However, when we are faithful, He gives us a place to walk among His people. We have standing before them. They see that we can be trusted and respected because of our godly lifestyle. Then, God can give more authority to match our lifestyle and trustworthiness.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Zechariah 4-7.
