I Wait for the Lord

Patience is very difficult for most of us. We would rather just do something than to wait and to be sure what to do first. This is a very bad problem when it comes to doing God's will. If we do not wait on the Lord, we can't know His will, therefore, we can't do it. That is why we have to allow the Spirit to develop patience in us, so we can live the Christian life as we should. The psalmist had matured to the point where he could affirm that He practiced waiting for the Lord and drawing his hope from God's Word. (Psalm 130:5) Both of these qualities are essential for believers.

When we wait for the Lord, we spend time with Him in prayer and in His Word. As we pray and read the Word, we wait to hear from Him. It is not passive waiting, but it actively expecting God to speak to us, and it is showing God our commitment to act when He reveals His will. We must wait on the Lord every day and all day long, as we pray without ceasing, and we meditate on His Word day and night. He must lead out in our relationship with Him, because He is the Groom, and we must submit to His leadership, because we are the bride. (Ephesians 5:22-33)

Then, as we read His Word, we learn about life, and the future. We learn God's nature and His promises. All of this brings hope, because we know we can trust what He has said to come true. Hope that is sure is a sweet gift. It is God's way of giving us a glimpse into the plans He has for us, and it is the assurance that His plans are steadfast and reliable. When we wait in the Lord and hope in His Word, we are living the best life anyone can imagine.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 133-135.
