Be Holy, For I Am Holy

Leviticus has a lot to say about being holy. I have already pointed out several things about how we are to be consecrated to Him and filled with the Spirit, so we can be holy. However, let me share one more part of this holiness. We are commended to be holy; it is not optional. (Leviticus 11:45) The Bible is clear in presenting this over and over from Leviticus to Revelation.

Christ is Lord. He is the full manifestation of God. We can't truly believe in God unless we trust Christ, as Lord. Anything less is making up our own god. Lord is a title that means He is our Leader or Boss. Whatever He says goes. Therefore, if He commands us to be holy, it is a requirement.

He delivered us from the bondage of sin, like He delivered Israel from Egypt. Only God could do that for us through the work of Christ on the Cross and the resurrection. Jesus gave His all for us to be our God. Since He gave it all, we are to give our all to Him and follow Him completely. He is holy, so we must be holy, too. (Revelation 3:7)

I know that we are weak and none of us are perfect. However, because Christ is holy, we can be holy with His power working in us, as we obey Him fully. We are to renounce sin, once and for all, and to embrace obedience to whatever He says in His Word. Then, when we sin, we confess it, and He cleanses us, so that we become more and more holy in His strength. (I John 1:9) There is no salvation apart from being holy, because our God is holy.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Leviticus 14-16.
