God's Comfort is Enough

We are all looking for comfort for all of the pains and stress of our busy lives. Dealing with people and life situations is stressful. When we "fear" people and what they can do to us, or the fact that they might decide to ignore us or not like us, it can worry us deeply. What is the solution? Where is the comfort?(Isaiah 51:12) If we receive our comfort from the Lord, there is no reason to fear what any human being can do to us. Think about this a minute.

All people are eternal beings. When we leave this life, we will either spend eternity in Heaven or in Hell. The ultimate comfort of life is having the assurance that our sins have been forgiven, and we will spend our eternity in Heaven with our Lord Jesus Christ, who paid for our sins that we might have life. Once we have that comfort by trusting Christ as Lord of our lives, whatever happens here for 70 or 80 years is a minor thing. However, I am sure that there are many believers who loose that eternal perspective, and even though we know Jesus, we fail to go to Him as our Comforter. We still fear people, in the sense that we care more about receiving their acceptance and love than we do pleasing God and receiving His comfort. This causes us huge stress because people will fail us, people can't satisfy our deepest needs, and we can't control what others may say or do. Therefore, we are constantly stressed because "he did this or she said that." Please, realize that when we live like that people are controlling us, and we are not allowing God to be our comfort.

Only the Lord can be our Shepherd to meet every need. He is the only one who knows when we need green pastures and still waters. He is the only one who can prepare a table for us in the presence of our enemies. He is the only one who can walk with us through the valley of the shadow of death, and comfort us. He is the only one who can shower us with goodness and mercy.(Psalm 23) Let's allow the Lord to be the Comforter, and all of our dealings with people will work out much better than if we try to seek our comfort elsewhere.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Isaiah 53-55.
