Vindicate me, O Lord

No matter how well we live our lives, people can say whatever they want to about us. It is not fair, but it is the reality of life. Also, people are cruel, and they use their tongues to destroy people. Therefore, we receive a lot of abuse at the hands of other people. Some of it, we know, and the rest is just known by others. David experienced this slander and abuse on a huge scale since he was a king. However, he did not fight back, but he allowed the Lord to vindicate him.(Psalm 26:1) We all need to learn this lesson, or we will be overly stressed by what others say about us.

Our responsibility is to live lives of integrity. We must be true to the Lord in all we say and do, no matter what others will say. We live in this integrity, because we trust in the Lord to guide us in life. Of course, we will fail to do the right thing, at times. Then, we ask the Lord and others for forgiveness. That is all we can do. We have no control over what other people do. God knows that, so He will support us, so that we do not slip. He will vindicate us in the eyes of others. He will show them the consistency of our lives, being lived in integrity and trust in Him. People will know that what is being said about us is false. That is God's vindication.

Each day as we pray, we need to pray this prayer that David prayed so long ago, "Vindicate me, O Lord." Then, once we have entrusted our reputation to Him, we live without the stress of trying to fight back and vindicate ourselves. We must lean on the vindication of the Lord, if we are going to live a joyful life in this fallen world.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 27-29.
