Standing in the Breach

As believers, we have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ, and we have relationships with people. When people we know people are not believers, or when believers commit serious sins, their relationship with God is broken. We have the ability to stand in the breach between God and that person, and to plead for God to show them mercy, as Moses did for the Israelites. (Psalm 106:23) It is a privilege and a responsibility. I pray we will practice this type of praying each day.

We call it intercession, when we stand in the breach for someone else. We should intercede to God for the people we know who are not believers every day, if possible. It is a matter of eternity in Hell for them. We should be diligent to ask for God's mercy. Also, when we know a believer who is in sin, we should constantly pray for God to show mercy to that brother or sister in Christ before He has to punish them severely. In both cases we ask God to hold back His wrath and to show them His love by making Himself very real to them and showing them they need to repent and trust Him. Our prayers of intercession make a huge difference in the lives of others. They do not insure their salvation or their restoration to God, but they make it much more probable.

Let's stay right with God, so that we can stand in the breach for others, and rejoice when we see the answers to our earnest prayers.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 110-112.
