The Guilt of Innocent Blood

Human life is sacred. We are all created in God's image. If an innocent person is killed, it is a sin. We are all guilty of innocent blood, if we do not stand up for all human life, and do the right thing.(Deuteronomy 21:9) The right thing is not to shed innocent blood. However, when it is shed, we must confess the sin and ask for God to forgive us. Then, we must work to see that it does not happen again.

We, as Christians in America, are guilty of innocent blood when we do not speak out against abortion. However, it is much more than just abortion. If an innocent person is put to death for murder because of perverted justice, that is innocent blood. If an innocent person is murdered in our community, and the killer is let off, we are guilty of innocent blood. In other words, we must take human life very seriously, because God holds us responsible.

I hope we will read these chapters in Deuteronomy and ask God what we should do as individuals and as churches to atone for the innocent blood that is shed in our country. Also, I pray that we will be champions of justice, so that our country will be known for upholding the sanctity of human life. Then, we can remove the guilt of innocent blood, because we will have done the right thing.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Deuteronomy 23-25.
