Biblical Worship

I believe we can worship God in various ways and with different styles of music. At our church we enjoy a blended style of worship, which means we use all types of music and other elements that are traditional and modern. However, in all we do there is one standard for worship. It must be Biblical. We must worship the Lord in the ways He instructs us in His Word, not in just any way we please.(Deuteronomy 12:31,32) There is always a danger that we will pick up pagan elements and try to use them to worship the Lord. That is highly offensive to God.

Worship is how we show God that He is worthy. It must be in line with His character. He is not to be manipulated. That is what pagan worship tries to do to their false gods. They want to get their way. Also, pagans like to put in sensual practices and things that appeal to demons. We must guard against anything that is simply fleshly or sensational. They even burn their children to get the gods to hear them and bless them. Of course, their gods are not real. It is the Devil himself leading them to do abominations. He is laughing at their worship. It would be an affront to God for us to do anything associated with that type of worship.

It is a great blessing for me and for our church to have Jacque Lederman, our Worship Coordinator, and Lee Sledge, our Worship Leader. They know the Lord and His Word, and they plan our worship and lead our worship according to His heart and His Word. We have variety, but we do not stray from what God tells us. We do not add to it or take away from it. I look forward to our worship each Lord's Day. I pray that is how it would be in all of our churches.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Deuteronomy 15-18.
