God Rewards Faithfulness

Joshua and Caleb were the only ones of their generation to live to see the Promised Land.(Numbers 26:64,65) This was their reward for being the only two faithful spies who went to check out the land before the invasion was to begin. However, they had to wait 40 years and see all those funerals before they entered the land. I am sure that had a great impact on the new generation. Think about it.

40 years is about 14,600 days. There were about 600,000 men who were counted in the first census. If you add the women, the total number of people who died in the wilderness as they wandered was around 1,200,000. That means they had over 80 funerals a day for 40 years, until that generation had all died for their unfaithfulness. I don't know how they even had time to journey, but I am sure each day it brought a new reminder of what had happened. I believe it prepared the new generation to be faithful. Also, Joshua and Caleb led them to be faithful by their example. God is serious about obedience and faithfulness.

What about today? God still rewards faithfulness and causes people to wander because of their lack of faith. We must choose to learn from the past and be faithful to God, no matter what happens. Then, we can enter the land that God has for us, even if we have to wait a while. It will be worth it.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Numbers 28-31.
