Which is Better?
We make value judgments all the time. We have to decide what is better for us and for our families. It is a very important part of life. What you value determines the quality of your life. Psalm 119 is a psalm about the law of God, which is the Word of God. How much do you value the law of the Lord? Is it better than money to you?(Psalm 119:72)
The psalmist makes a bold declaration when he says that the law of God's mouth is worth more to him than "thousands" of coins of gold and silver. I assume this means millions of dollars in today's money. Is that true for you? Do you decide to read God's Word, study God's Word, and memorize God's Word because it is worth more than money to you? Yes, we all need money, I know. However, which is better to you?
The same could be said for sleep, for recreation, for entertainment, and for many other things. Do we find that God's Word is better for us than these things? It is by God's Word that we come to know Him intimately. It is by knowing and doing God's Word that we grow strong in the Lord. Comfort and wisdom for life come from God's Word. It is definitely better for us than money or anything else that we can apply ourselves to know and to do. However, many people miss the worth of God's Word, because they believe these other things are better for them. Please, don't miss the amazing law of the Lord and what it will do for you, if you value it in your life.
