Unity Among Believers

The psalmist reminds us of God's will for us to have unity with other believers.(Psalm 133:1) If there is one Lord, One Father, One Spirit, and one Word of God, then why should there not be unity among believers? My conclusion is that true believers should always experience a spiritual unity, and if that is not the case, someone is missing God's will.

I am not referring to uniformity. All believers will not be the same in how we do things and how we live out our faith. If that were the case, we would not be able to reach all kinds of people in the world who need Jesus. God made us with different personalities, so He loves for us to express our differences.

At the same time God is a God of unity and interdependence. He expects His children to get along and work together, instead of fighting and disagreeing on the things that are obvious from His Word of Truth. The unity of believers is one factor that brings the people of the world to know Christ.(John 17) They see our love for each other and our unity with the Lord and other believers, so that they know it is a supernatural unity.

I pray that we will not try to work up a fake unity, but we will live out the unity we have in Christ, so that all the world will know He is Lord of all.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 136-138.
