Fear and Discouragement

Fear and discouragement will keep us from trusting God and receiving all He has for us in life, just like they kept the Israelites from possessing the Promised land.(Deuteronomy 1:21) It is vital that we learn the keys to overcoming fear and discouragement, so that we can have all God has promised for us.

Fear always comes from Satan. God does not give us the spirit of fear. Therefore, any time we are afraid, except for a healthy fear of God, we know we are under attack from Satan. The key is to be filled with the Spirit. The Holy Spirit fills us with love, power, and a sound mind, instead of fear.(II Timothy 1:7) As soon as you feel fearful. Stop and confess any sins the Spirit brings to your mind, so you can be a clean vessel for Him to fill. Then, surrender yourself to the Spirit, asking Him to control you, direct you, and empower you. Resist Satan by using God's Word like Jesus did, and he has to flee from you.(James 4:7) Then, do whatever the Spirit tells you to do, and trust Him to empower you. You can and will defeat fear.

Discouragement come from looking at your problems, instead of looking at God and how He has blessed you. Stop focusing on the size of your problems, and start praising God for being so wonderful, powerful, kind, loving, and wise. When you focus on Him in praise, you begin to remember that He is far bigger than any problem. Do not let yourself listen to the lies of Satan and others which tell you that your problem is worse that anyone else's problems.(I Corinthians 10:13) God has a way for you to escape your problems by doing His will. Look to Him, and He will show you. You are never in a hopeless situation, as long as God is on your side.

Please, don't let fear and discouragement cripple you. The Israelites had to wander for 40 years because they gave in to them. They are an example for us, so that we do not miss our Promised land, which is the abundant life Christ has for each of His children.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Deuteronomy 3-5.
